Dutchwomen Falls to No. 10 Cornell

Sophomore goaltender Kate Gallagher made a season team-high of 38 saves against No. 10 Cornell.

Sophomore goaltender Kate Gallagher made a team-season high 38 saves as the Union College women's ice hockey (2-7-0, 0-3-0 ECACH) team were set back by No. 10 Cornell (3-2-0, 3-0-0 ECACH) on Friday. It was the first game the Dutchwoman has face a team ranked by USCHO this season.

Cornell struck first in the first period. With the Dutchwomen killing a penalty, Melanie Jue scored in front of the goal at 05:55 into the game. Nearly two minutes later, Laura Danforth scored Union's second goal with help from Kendice Ogilvie.

The Dutchwomen offense made their presence late in the first period when freshman forward Rhianna Kurio made a shot that went pass the right goal post.

Kurio made a run through the right from center but her shot outside was saved by Cornell goaltender Amanda Mazzotta. The Big Red offense kept the puck in the Dutchwomen's zone. Sophomore forward Kelly Alyea made a shot just outside the neutral zone but was saved by Ogilvie.

Union's closest goal was from senior defenseman Jackie Koetteritz. The co-captain's shot just outside the neutral zone hit the right post and was cleared by Cornell.

The Dutchwomen opened the third period making three shots toward the goal. Freshman forward Jeannie Sabourin and junior forward Callee Heywood each took a close shot from the left goal post but both were saved by Ogilvie.
