Dutchmen Defeat Engineers In Men’s Tennis Matchup

SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men's tennis team claimed a 6-3 victory against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Thursday afternoon. The victory was the first of the year for the Dutchmen (1-9), while Engineers' record moves to 3-4.

Senior Vic Ravikmar, who teamed with freshman Dan Nault for a 8-0 win in the first doubles pairing, got Union rolling in singles play with a 7-5, 6-3 win against freshman Michael Wilkins in the second position. Nault followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win against freshman Matthew Asher.

Union's other singles win came in the sixth spot when freshman Jay Shah defeated junior Kevin Goergek, 6-3, 6-3.

RPI senior Ed Cullen claimed a first-spot victory against sophomore Alex Katz, 7-6, 6-3 and sophomore Adam Generale outmatched sophomore Matt Goodnow, 6-3, 7-6, in the fourth position.

The Dutchmen's other two wins came in the second and third doubles positions. Ringel and Kurtz defeated Asher and Kumar, 8-3, while Katz and Goodnow took down sophomore Evan Creer and sophomore Eric Polesky, 8-2.

The two teams now prepare for the Liberty League Championship hosted by Hobart on Saturday, Apr. 18 and Sunday Apr. 19.
