ITHACA, NY -- Erika VanValkenburg had 25 assists in a match win over Rutgers-Newark and 38 in a five game loss to the host school as Union went 1-1 in the first day of the Ithaca Invitational. The Dutchwomen downed Rutgers-Newark, 25-7, 25-12 and 25-9, but lost to the host Bombers by scores of 25-23, 6-25, 25-13, 19-25 and 15-25 to stand 4-2 on the season.
In the victory,
Veronica Mynders had 10 digs and
Rachel Ormsby added seven kills.
Bridget Little and
Eve Richards posted five kills each.
Nora Wood led the showing for the Dutchwomen in the match against Ithaca. She had 21 digs and 10 kills, while Mynders added 19 digs. Richards recorded 20 digs with 10 kills and Ormsby (14 kills) and Little (11 kills) also had strong matches for the Dutchwomen.
Union faces Baptist Bible (11 a.m.) and SUNY Geneseo (1 p.m.) Saturday.
