SCHENECTADY, NY -- All-American
Veronica Mynders had 27 digs on the day and
Rachel Ormsby had eight total blocks in the two matches as the Union volleyball team swept both Hunter and Utica in the first day of the Union Invitational Friday at the Viniar Athletic Center.
The Dutchwomen improved to 7-3, and opened with a 25-17, 25-23 and 25-17 triumph over Hunter. In the nightcap Union swept Utica, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14.
Mynders had eight digs along with a kill in the match win over Hunter. Ormsby posted four blocks and Erika VanValkenberg recorded 22 assists with three kills.
Eve Richards added nine kills and
Nora Wood recorded five kills in the win.
Against the Pioneers, Ormsby added four more blocks along with nine kills and Mynders led the Dutchwomen with 18 kills.
Mary Foley had four blocks and Richards finished with eight kills.
Saturday's schedule will be determined by pool play standings after the first day.
