SCHENECTADY, NY -- Rachel Ormsby had 15 kills and 10 blocks in two matches and was named to the All-Tournament Team as Union faced two Liberty League rivals in the final day of the Union Invitational Volleyball Tournament. The Dutchwomen lost in five games to Skidmore and suffered a four game defeat to Vassar to finish the weekend with a 7-5 record for the season.
The Thoroughbreds downed the Dutchwomen, 25-20, 12-25, 25-17, 24-26 and 15-8. Vassar's match featured scores of 26-24, 14-25, 25-22 and 25-23.
In the Skidmore matchup, Ormsby had seven kills and eight total blocks, along with four service aces. Nora Wood had 13 digs and eight kills and Eve Richards recorded 12 digs with nine kills and three blocks. Erika VanValkenberg had seven blocks and led the Dutchwomen with 31 assists.
Wood and Richards each had 10 kills and Ormsby added eight in the loss to Vassar. Wood (nine digs) and Richards (18 digs) also were solid defensively. VanValkenberg posted 29 assists and Ormsby had eight kills.
Union hosts Middlebury Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Viniar Athletic Center.
