SCHENECTADY, NY- Lauren Hoffman scored two goals to lead the Union Women's Ice Hockey team as they defeated visiting Sacred Heart 3-0 on Friday night at Messa Rink.
Following a scoreless first period, Union got on the board when Jeannie Sabourin fed a backhanded pass to Stefanie Thomson for the first goal of the game at 5:01. It was also Thomson's first of her collegiate career. Just over two minutes later, Chelsey Heinhus found Hoffman in front of the goal to make it 2-0. Hoffman would score her second of the game and the team's third when# Lauren Cromartie# passed to her from behind the net for a short-handed goal at 8:38 of the second period.
Kate Gallagher got the start in goal and made eight saves. #Alana Marcinko# came in the third period and had four saves for the combined shutout. Alexius Schutt stopped a whopping 65 shots between the pipes for the Pioneers.
Union led in shots by a wide margin, 68-12.
The Dutchwomen return to the ice tomorrow as they take on New Hampshire at 4 pm.
