Box Score

SCHENECTADY, NY
– Junior forward Kelly Zajac scored four goals and senior forward Adam Presizniuk had five assists, both Union records in the Division I era, as the men's ice hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 7-3, at Messa Rink on Saturday night.

Sophomore goaltender Keith Kinkaid picked up his second win in as many nights in relief of senior Corey Milan. The two goaltenders combined for 18 saves on the night.

Five different Dutchmen had multiple point efforts, Zajac (four goals, assist), Presizniuk (five assists), Wayne Simpson (goal, two assists), M. Bodie (two assists), and Greg Coburn (goal, assist), with Zajac and Presizniuk and Simpson all setting career marks for points in a game.

Union went 4-of-7 on the power play, the most power play goals the Dutchmen have had in a game since scoring five at Connecticut on Dec. 17, 2006.

The Dutchmen got off to a fast start for the second time in as many nights. Sophomore Jeremy Welsh took a pass from freshman Josh Jooris in the slot and scored for a 1-0 lead at 5:04.

Zajac struck for his first goal just over two minutes later on a one-timer off a cross ice feed from Mat Bodie at 7:24.

After Patrick Knowlton of Sacred Heart cut the lead to 2-1 at 14:01, Zajac answered on a Union power play, scoring into an open net after a series of passes from Wayne Simpson and Presizniuk.

Sacred Heart would tie the game at 3-3 with goals from T.J. Powers at 18:07 in the first period and Matt Gingera at 3:21 of the second period.

But it only took :54 for Union to respond on a power play, as Zajac's slapshot from the faceoff circle gave the Dutchmen a 4-3 lead at 4:15.

Sophomore defenseman Greg Coburn scored his first goal of the year at 6:09 on the power play, off a rebound on a shot from Presizniuk.

Wayne Simpson would notch Union's fourth power play goal of the evening at 9:30 of the third period, deflecting Zajac's shot from the circle to give Union a 6-3 advantage.

Zajac would set the school record at 16:58, beating Sacred Heart goaltender Steven Legatto on the near-side from the circle for his fourth goal of the night.

Union will head to Alaska for the Brice Alaska Goal Rush, with their first game against Alaska-Fairbanks on Oct. 16 at 12:05 a.m. Eastern time.
