SCHENECTADY, NY -- Junior midfielder Rachel Romanowski (Hampstead, NH) scored three goals and #4 Trinity came back from an early 3-0 deficit to pull out a 6-5 victory over #13 Union at Frank Bailey Field Thursday.
The Bantams remain undefeated at 6-0, while the Dutchwomen fell to 2-4. Each of Union's four losses have come by one goal against ranked teams, including the last game, a 9-8 loss at #1 Salisbury.
Union had a chance to send the game into overtime with a free position shot by
Allie Cuozzo with six seconds remaining. But the shot went wide and the Bantams held on, as the Dutchwomen, who had trailed 6-3, scored two goals in the final 3:25 to pull to within one.
Trinity had a 24-17 shot advantage on the day, while the Dutchwomen had a 31-29 ground ball advantage. The Bantams forced 24 turnovers while Union won seven of the 13 draw controls.
Kristin Joyce scored twice for the Dutchwomen, while
Melissa Hine had two assists.
Cat Ruggiero made 13 save in net while Stephanie Fisher (Brunswick, ME) stopped two shots.
Joyce opened the scoring with 27:43 left on a pass from Hine, and just 2:41 later,
Keelin Skurek tallied her sixth of the year from
Abby Stohler. Joyce notched #23 on the season with 22:40 left and the Dutchwomen had a 3-0 advantage. But the Bantams got goals by Romanowski at 14:37 and 13:32, and then she assisted on the tying tally by Kaitlin Hildebrand (Berwyn, PA) with 12;49 left. Romanowsky's 15th of the season with 9:29 left in the half provided the 4-3 Trinity lead.
In the first 5:14 of the second half, the Bantams opened up a 6-3 advantage. Sarah Remes (Silver Spring, MD) and Caitlin Irvine (Westwood, MA) scored for Trinity during that span. Cuozzo scored #5 of the season on a free position with 3:25 left to make it 6-4, and
Lizzy Moran scored her third of the year with 1:09 left from Hine to make it a one goal contest.
Joyce now has 142 career goals, moving one past Abby Harris '00 for fourth all-time for career goals at Union.
Union begins Liberty League play April 6 at Skidmore.
