TROY, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team defeated cross-town rival Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Thursday by a score of 8-1. The win moves Union to 2-6 heading into the Liberty League Championships on Saturday at Vassar.

The Dutchmen dominated in doubles. Sam Ringel and Dan Nault defeated Evan Creer & James Fitzgerald 8-4 in the No. 1 court while Saul Kurtz and Mike Kanner defeated Alex Franz and Kenny Weiand 8-2 in the No. 2 spot. Matt Goodnow and Alex Katz completed the sweep with a 8-0 win over Eric Polesky and Patrick Russo in the No. 3 court.

In singles action, Nault defeated Asher in the No. 1 spot 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), Kurtz topped Creer 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 position, Goodnow defeated Weiand 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot, Kanner defeated Adam Generale in the No. 5 spot in a tight match 6-4, 6-4 and Andrew Schwartz defeated Kyle Borton 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot.
