Melissa Hine each scored three goals to lead the second seed #11 Union women's lacrosse team to a 11-9 win over third seed St. Lawrence in the Liberty League Semifinal. Union faces top seed #1 Hamilton for the Championship on Saturday at 2:30 p.m..
Along with the hat trick, Hine had five assists.
Allie Cuozzo tallied two goals while
Jill LaForest and
Ally Boertzel scored one each.
Cat Ruggiero made 11 saves for Union.
Saints attacker Nora Langan also recorded a hat trick for St. Lawrence. Kelsey Redpath and Margie Bailey each scored a goal. Anna Marchand stopped five shots in goal. The Saints outshot the Dutchwomen 27-22 in the game.
Although Langan scored the first goal of the game, the Dutchwomen tallied five goals in a span of 14 minutes for the 5-1 lead. Hine scored Union's first goal and recorded three assists in the half. But within three minutes near the end of the first half, St. Lawrence added three goals and entered halftime trailing by one.
St. Lawrence outshot Union in the first half 15-10. Brigid Hurley scored two goals in the first half.
Throughout a majority of the second half, St. Lawrence kept it within one goal. Hine's back-to-back goals in 8:44 and in 5:30 gave Union a three-goal lead for the first time in the half.
#1 Hamilton advanced with a victory over RPI earlier in the day in the other semifinal.
