SCHENECTADY, NY - - Kristin O'Connor scored her second goal of the game in the second overtime period to send the Union College field hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Rochester Yellowjackets at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League while Rochester fell to 3-3 (0-1).
In the second overtime
Kelsey Powers ran the length of the field, dodging multiple defenders and dished the ball to
Bethany Crowe. Crowe sent a hard pass across the middle to O'Connor who settled the ball and fought it past a Yellowjacket defender into the goal.
In the first half Union got on the board first on a
Isabel Zellweger goal at 21:00. Zellweger corralled a Powers pass in front of the goal and sent a hard shot past Rochester goalie Madison Wagner for a score. The Dutchwomen increased their lead with a goal at 28:17. This time it was O'Connor scoring her first goal of the day by tipping a pass from
Nicole Merigliano.
The second half belonged to the Yellowjackets as they scored twice to tie the game. Their first goal came at 52:57, when Shelby Hall scored an unassisted goal from deep with some power behind it. Allison Beardsley knotted the game with her rebound of a Rochester shot off a corner. The Yellowjackets had a couple shots stopped before Beadsley gathered the rebound and put it past a diving
Sarah Rios.
Rios finished with 12 saves on the day for Union while Wagner stoped 13 attempts for Rochester.
Union returns to action on Saturday when it hosts William Smith at 2 p.m.
