AMHERST, MA- The men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in their first meet of the New Year against a good Amherst squad on Sunday afternoon.

 

The men fell by the score of 222-78. Zach Wahl won the only event for men in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 53.73 which was .04 ahead of the next swimmer. Wahl also had two second place finishes. One was the 200 Freestyle where he turned in a time of 1:47.70 which was four minutes behind Amherst swimmer Alex Fraser. Wahl was also second in the 100 Freestyle where he had a time of 49.81 which was just behind Amherst's Sheng Hu. Kevin Jung was second in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 22.63. Adam Herzog was second in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:59.62. Jung and Wahl were also on the 200 Freestyle Relay team along with Matt Wahl and Alex Connell that came in second with a time of 1:30.75.

 

On the diving boards, Ian Drillinger was second in the meter with a score of 264.90 and second in the three meter with a score of 259.42.

 

The women fell by the score of 214-79. There were two winners for the team. Danielle Young won the 200 Freestyle in 1:59.55 which was just .14 seconds ahead of Amherst's Becca Thompson. Priscilla Wright won the 50 Freestyle in 25.32. Wright and Young were also on the 200 Freestyle Relay team that came in second with a time 1:42.95. Young also had a second place finish in the 100 Free with a time of 56.01. Other second place finishes included Madeline Ashworth in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:59.43, Rachel Clegg in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:36.95, and Andrea Marois with a time of 1:02.30 in the 100 Butterfly.

 

In diving. Lia D'Ambrosio was second in the three meter dive with a score of 179.25.

 

Both teams return to the pool next Saturday with a dual meet against Springfield and Hartwick at 1 pm in Springfield.
