SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Dutchwomen fell 5-1 to Quinnipiac on Saturday at Messa Rink.  Sophomore Amanda Colin tallied the game-winner with less than five minutes left in the first period.  Union is now 2-7 on the season with a 0-2 mark in the ECAC, while the Bobcats move to 2-5 and 2-0.

Colin scored her first goal of the season at the 15:49 mark after being set up by freshman Nicole Kosta and junior Brittany Lyons. Kosta moved in and wound up to take a shot, before quickly passing to Colin on the opposite side of the net.  Although junior goaltender Alana Marcinko instinctively made her way over, the forward went top shelf to put the Bobcats up 2-0.

Quinnipiac was first on the board with junior Breann Frykas tallying her first goal of the season. The forward took a slap shot from the top right corner, and the puck made its way through several bodies before finding the back of the net. 

The Dutchwomen tried to capitalize on impressive play-making by senior Molly Kate Devin, who set up freshman Alex Tancrell-Fontaine from the top left corner.  The defenseman came within five feet of junior goaltender Victoria Vigilanti before firing off a shot that barely went wide.

Facing 12 shots in the first period alone, Marcinko made back-to-back saves on junior Regan Boulton and sophomore Shelby Wignall.  The netminder fended off an intense slapshot from Boulton and then quickly recovered to keep Wignall from going five-hole. 

The second period began with an immediate scoring opportunity for the Dutchwomen, with sophomore Maddy Norton blocking a Quinnipiac shot to keep the puck in the Bobcats' zone.  Norton then dished to Devin down the left side of the ice.  Freshman Camille Corbin picked up the senior's pass and she attempted to get a shot off at the right side of Vigilanti.  However, the puck was quickly poked away by the junior goaltender.

Quinnipiac extended their lead to 3-0 at the 6:55 mark when sophomore Kelly Babstock moved in on Marcinko's left. The forward patiently shot the puck into the high corner of the net.  Despite a late rush of shots coming from senior Lauren Hoffman and freshman Bryanne Panchuk, the Dutchwomen remained scoreless at the end of the period.

The Bobcats did not let up on their pace, scoring one minute and six seconds into the final frame. Junior Kristen Eklund scored her first goal of the season, unassisted, by burying a shot into the left corner.  Just 30 seconds later, senior Jordan Elkins took a slap shot that bounced off of the ice and deflected in past Marcinko to put Quinnipiac up 5-0.

The Dutchwomen responded with just under 14 minutes left to play when junior Emma Rambo scored her first goal of the season. Rambo fired from the sharp left of the net, and Vigilanti seemed to have made the save. However, a moment later the puck slowly slid across the goal line to put the score at 5-1.

With a last minute back-hand attempt coming from sophomore Stefanie Thomson, time ran out to leave Quinnipiac with their second ECAC win of the weekend. Vigilanti made 19 saves while Marcinko and senior Kate Gallagher combined to earn 24 saves on the evening. It was Gallagher's first game of the season.

Union is back at home next weekend to take on Clarkson University on Friday, November 4th, at 7:00 p.m.  The Dutchwomen face St. Lawrence University on Saturday, November 5th, at 4:00 p.m. for their fourth ECAC game in a row.
