SCHENECTADY, NY -- Union College senior Kelly Zebrowski of the women's crew team recently joined community leaders at William C. Keane Elementary School for "Read Across America Day."
Kelly, a Biochemistry major, was joined by many community celebrities and officials including Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton, Rotterdam Town Justice the Honorable Kenneth Litz, Director of Special Education for Schenectady Schools Kathleen Lupi, WRGB-TV 6 news anchor Teresa Priolo, and WNYT-TV 13 meteorologist Tim Drawbridge.
The March 2 event celebrated the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. This was the 13th year of the program. After joining dignitaries and guests on stage for an assembly, Kelly proceeded to the library. She greeted Mrs. Arket's first grade class, and read "Horton Hears a Who" along with Eric McDowell, Union's Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information. The Union Athletics representatives then joined the children for birthday cake in the library, and Kelly talked about her experiences as a student-athlete at Union College.
"I really enjoyed reading to the children," said Kelly. "It was a meaningful way to give back to the Schenectady community. It was such an honor to be invited on stage with the Mayor of Schenectady and other leaders in the area."
