Gagliardi and Werkema Named to All-Liberty League Crew Teams

TROY, N.Y. – Juniors Amy Gagliardi and Olivia Werkema of the Union College women's crew team were named to 2026 All-Liberty League teams, the conference office announced on Friday afternoon.

Both Garnet Charger rowers received the first postseason honors of their careers from the Liberty League, with Gagliardi earning one of 10 spots on the first team and Werkema securing a second-team nod. Union was the only Liberty League team to produce two junior All-Conference rowers in 2025-26.

Gagliardi and Werkema both raced in all eight regattas on Union's schedule, competing in three Varsity 4+ races and six Varsity 8+ races.

At the beginning of the season, Union's All-Conference student-athletes rowed in both the Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ races at the Mohawk Fall Classic. The Varsity 4+ placed fourth out of 10 teams at that regatta in September, setting the stage for a successful season for Union's Varsity 4+.

Werkema rowed from the bow in all three Varsity 4+ races, and Gagliardi made two appearances from the stroke seat and one from the 4 seat in the 4+ shell. At the New York State Championships, Gagliardi, Werkema, and the rest of their Varsity 4+ crew placed third in the Grand Final against all Division-I boats. Union earned a spot in the New York State Championships Grand Final after winning its heat against four DI crews. Over two days at the Dad Vail Regatta, Union's pair of All-Conference rowers helped propel Union to a second-place finish in the DII/DIII Varsity 4+ race. On the first day of competition, Union won the time trial and subsequent semifinal before placing second in the Grand Final the next day.

In six Varsity 8+ races, Gagliardi competed from the 4 seat twice, the stroke seat three times, and the 2 seat once. Werkema rowed from the 3 seat in the final four regattas of the season after beginning her All-Conference season in the 5 and 6 seats at the first two regattas of the year, respectively.
