ITHACA, NY – The Dutchwomen came away undefeated from day two of the Ithaca Invitational, topping Widener University 3-2 and The College at Brockport 3-0. Union swept Brockport with scores of 28-26, 25-21 and 25-19. After losing the first set to Widener, the squad came back and took the match with scores of 18-25, 25-17, 25-18, 23-25, 16-14.
Sophomore setter Mackenzie Westfall helped shut down Widener by tallying 42 assists. Fellow sophomores Marissa Vollmer and Casey Tepper had 28 and 24 digs, respectively. Continuing her successful freshman season debut, Claire Kokoska recorded seven kills. Junior Nora Wood had seven kills, as well, while senior Eve Richards led the team with 21 kills. Richards was named to the Ithaca Invitational All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the weekend tournament.
The Union squad battled through a close first set before sweeping Brockport. Westfall assisted on 39 of the 78 points scored by the Dutchwomen. Tepper tallied 12 kills, bringing her afternoon total to 27, and 14 digs. Vollmer led the team with 17 digs and Richards let with 17 kills. Senior Mary Foley contributed seven kills during the match.
The Dutchwomen are set to host the Union Invitational next weekend on September 16 and 17. The squad is 5-3 on the year and looks to dominate at their home tournament.
