SCHENECTADY, NY – Freshman forward Mark Bennett scored his first career goal, and junior forward Kyle Bodie added a goal and and two assists to help lead No. 14/13 Union (14-6-6, 8-3-3 ECAC Hockey) to a 5-2 win over Clarkson (11-11-5, 5-5-3 ECAC Hockey) in front of 2,013 fans at Messa Rink.

The win was Union's ninth straight against Clarkson and marked the third straight year that the Dutchmen have swept the season series against the Golden Knights. Sophomore goaltender Troy Grosenick stopped 30 of 32 shots, as Union outshot Clarkson 42-32 for the game.

Sophomore forward Josh Jooris, and junior forward Wayne Simpson also scored for the Dutchmen, who netted four first period goals and outshot Clarkson 21-3 in the frame.

Union added a shorthanded goal from freshman forward Sam Coatta to take a commanding 5-0 lead just over two minutes into the second period.

Bennett got the Dutchmen going early, as Union scored on its first shot of the contest. The freshman forward cut into the slot and fired low past Clarkson goaltender Paul Karpowich (37 saves) at 2:45 to give the Dutchmen the opening goal for the seventh straight time.

Union made it 2-0 on its next shot, as Jooris beat Karpowich on a wrap-around at 3:20.

With Clarkson's Jake Morley in the penalty box for boarding, Union went to work on the man advantage, which finished the night 2-for-4 on power play chances. Senior forward Kelly Zajac fed Bodie, who had a clear shooting lane and beat Karpowich between the pads at 8:39 to give Union a 3-0 advantage.

Union converted on another power play opportunity late in the frame, scoring with one-tenth of a second left in the first period. Junior defenseman Greg Coburn (two assists) fired on net, and Kyle Bodie put the rebound off Karpowich's pad.

Simpson skated into open ice and finished into an open net as the buzzer sounded to end the first period. Officials reviewed the play and determined that the puck had crossed the line at 19:59, giving Union a four goal lead.

Early in the second period, with Union killing a Josh Jooris slashing penalty, Kyle Bodie blocked a shot by Clarkson's Sam Labrecque, setting up a 2-on-1 with freshman forward Sam Coatta. Bodie fed cross-ice to Coatta, who beat Karpowich to put Union up 5-0 at 2:32.
Clarkson's Nick Tremblay scored at 11:27, skating out in front of the net from the end line and beating Grosenick between the pads.

Union killed off two Clarkson power plays in the second period and finished the night a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Golden Knights added another goal at 11:17 of the third period, as Labrecque scored at even strength from the left point, but Clarkson would get no closer in the contest.

Union will take on St. Lawrence tomorrow night at Messa Rink in a contest that begins at 7:00 p.m.
