BOWLING GREEN, OH –
Freshman defenseman Sebastien Gingras scored two of No. 9/10 Union's three power play goals to help the Dutchmen (1-1-0) rally back from an early deficit for a 5-3 win over Bowling Green in front of 2,205 fans at BGSU Ice Arena.

Junior forward Josh Jooris added a power play goal, and senior forward Kyle Bodie and junior defenseman Mat Bodie scored back-to-back shorthanded goals in the third period to seal the win for Union.

Junior goaltender Troy Grosenick stopped 25 of 28 shots in net for his first win of the season, as Bowling Green outshot Union 28-24 for the night.

Union fell behind early on, as Bowling Green scored twice in the first 10 minutes to put the Dutchmen in an early 2-0 hole.

Bowling Green's Adam Berkle got the Falcons on the scoreboard at 3:16. Berkle skated into the Union zone unmarked and Ryan Carpenter fed him a pass from behind the net. Berkle beat Grosenick with a low backhand shot to put Bowling Green up 1-0.

Just over three minutes later, Bowling Green would make it 2-0, as Carpenter kept the puck on a 2-on-1 and beat Grosenick from the slot at 6:18.

Union would get back into the game late in the first period, scoring twice on the man advantage.

Gingras scored his first career goal, pinching in from the point and beating Hammond over the shoulder on a feed from sophomore forward Max Novak at 15:10.

The Dutchmen would quickly even the score on their next power play opportunity, as junior forward Josh Jooris scored on a deflection in front of the net off a shot from Mat Bodie at 16:48.

Gingras scored his second goal of the contest on another Union power play midway through the second period. Bodie fed Gingras with a cross-ice pass, and his slapshot from the left point deflected off a Bowling Green player in front of the net and past Hammond at 12:46 to put the Dutchmen up 3-2.

Clinging to a one-goal lead early in the third period, Bowling Green went on the man advantage when senior defenseman Greg Coburn was whistled for high sticking at 6:11.

Bowling Green goaltender Andrew Hammond (19 saves) misplayed a puck behind his own net, allowing senior forward Wayne Simpson (two assists) to gain control. Simpson fed to Kyle Bodie, who had a wide open net to give Union a 4-2 lead at 6:22.

On the same penalty kill, Mat Bodie added his first of the season, finishing a two-on-one with a shot off a pass from Kyle Bodie at 7:21.

Bowling Green's Mark Cooper added a late power play goal for the Falcons at 14:00, but the Dutchmen closed out the game for their first win of the season.

Union will play the second leg of the two-game series against Bowling Green tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
