CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Julie Chu and Team USA were able to earn a rematch in the gold medal game against Team Canada and prevailing over the Canadians in a 3-0 shutout in Finland Saturday afternoon.
"I'm very happy as to how our team came together this week," Head Coach Katey Stone told USA Hockey. "We played tough, we played smart, we made some adjustments, we had great goaltending, and we played strong (defensively). I'm happy and proud of how (we) played."
The team played a round-robin tournament against the other three teams to determine the squads that advanced to the gold and bronze medal games.
Team USA started the preliminary round with a shutout of Sweden, 4-0, before dropping a 3-1 decision to rival Canada. At 1-1, the United States was matched up against Finland in the last pool-play game with a spot in the championship on the line. The Red, White and Blue dominated Finland, 15-1, to convincingly move on to the title contest.
Chu, a veteran of 11 Four Nation Cups and three Olympic Games, found the back of the net in the first period that saw Team USA jump to a 7-0 lead in the match against Finland.
Team USA's 2-1 mark was enough to get the Red, White and Blue a second chance at Canada in the final.
The Four Nations Cup championship was Team USA's fifth title and second in a row. Previously the Red, White and Blue had topped the Four Nations Cup in 1997, 2003, 2008 and 2011.
Team USA will come together again in late December for a training camp at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn.
