The Dutchwomen are back competing in conference play as they will be traveling to Princeton and Quinnipiac this weekend. Friday's match against the Tigers will start at 7:00 p.m. on November 30 while the game against the Bobcats will begin at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1. The Providence College Friars snapped the Dutchwomen's three-game unbeaten streak as Union was defeated 4-0 on the road last Sunday. Union conceded three goals in the first period and the Friars tacked on an insurance goal in the third period in the four-goal shutout. Beth Hanrahan netted two goals in the Friars win while Molly Illkainen tallied a goal and an assist to contribute to the Friars offense.
Christine Valente led all skaters with five shots on goal as the Dutchwomen offense outshot the Friars 24-17 in the game. However, Sarah Bryant shut down the Union offense by stopping all 24 shots, which included 12 saves in the first period.
The Dutchwomen defense yielded the lowest shots by an opponent this season with 17 but Shenae Lundberg faced an efficient Friars attack that took advantage of their opportunities. Defensively, the penalty kill unit put up an unblemished performance killing three penalties and only surrendering three shots. Offensively, the power play could not generate a goal going 0-6 on four shots.
Scouting Princeton
Princeton comes into this weekend after splitting a pair of games with No. 8 Ohio State. The Tigers lost the first game 2-4 in which the Buckeyes rallied back from a 0-2 deficit with four unanswered goals to take the first game. In the second matchup, the Tigers scored two goals in the third period to turn the tables on the Buckeyes in the 2-1 win.
The Dutchwomen played the Tigers back on November 10 of this season in which Rhianna Kurio scored in the final minute of regulation to level the score at one to force overtime. Princeton and Union eventually played to a 1-1 tie.
Olivia Mucha and Brianna Leahy tallied goals in the first match while Alex Kinney and Leahy again scored in the following match. Corey Strerns earned a pair of assists over the weekend while Kimberly Newell compiled a 1-1-0 record with 80 saves in the two games.
Offensively, Corey Sterns who has 13 assists and a goal this season pace the Tigers. Her 13 assists is ranked sixth in the ECAC among all skaters. Alongside Sterns is Princeton's leading goal scorer Kelly Cooke in which she has recorded six goals and two assists on the 2012-13 campaign. Assisting the Tigers offense includes Sally Butler (5-3-8), Alex Kinney (3-4-7) and Brianna Leahy (3-4-7).
Defensively, Kimberly Newell has started every game for the Tigers this season, posting a 3.41 goals against average with a .906 save percentage and a 4-6-2 record this season. Additionally, the Tigers boast the fifth best penalty kill unit in the conference with an 82.4% success rate.
Scouting Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac comes off playing four games in the last seven days going 2-2 for the week. The Bobcats were able to defeat St. Lawrence and Connecticut but dropped games against New Hampshire and Boston College. Additionally, the Bobcats snapped a seven-game winning streak the Saints strung together dating back to October 26 with a win against Rensselaer.
Union athd Quinnipiac played in a 2-2 draw earlier this season dating back to November 9. The Dutchwomen had the lead twice with go-ahead goals by Christine Valente and Kathryn Tomaselli. However, Nicole Brown and Kelly Babstock responded with equalizers.
Kelly Babstock and Nicole Kosta lead the Bobcats offensively as Quinnipiac have the top two skaters in the conference in terms of points. Babstock has tallied 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points while Kosta has eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points. Alongside the duo of Babstock and Kosta is Brittany Lyons who is tied with Kosta with eight goals this season, second best on the squad. Assisting the offense includes Erica Uden Johansson (6-6-12) and Nicole Connery (5-3-8).
Victoria Vigilanti has played the majority of the games for the Bobcats this season, starting 13 of the 17 games. The netminder has compiled a 2.66 goals against average with a .887 save percentage and a 7-5-1 record. Chelsea Laden has also seen some time as the netminder with four starts and recording a 2.96 goals against average, .891 save percentage and a 1-2-1 record.
Penalty Kill
In the last five games, the Dutchwomen penalty kill unit has only conceded one goal in 17 chances, a 94.1% success rate. Kelly Cooke of Princeton scored the one power play goal in the 1-1 draw against Union back on November 10. Additionally, the Dutchwomen are tied for the third fewest power play goals conceded with Cornell in ECAC play.
Power Play
Christine Valente tallied another power play goal for the Dutchwomen in the draw against Quinnipiac, Valente's goal pushes up the team total to nine this season. Half of Union's goals this season have come on the man-advantage. Valente's three power play goals also ranks tied for 23rd among all skaters in Division I.
When Valente Registers a Point
Christine Valente has registered at least one point in every tie or win the Dutchwomen have earned this season. Union is 3-0-2 when Valente has tallied a point and outscoring opponents 13-9. In games that Valente has not registered a point, the Dutchwomen are 0-6-0 and have been outscored 28-5.
Red Hot Freshman
Courtney Turner, Jessica Kaminsky and Kathryn Tomaselli have all netted goals on the season. Tomaselli and Turner are tied for the team lead with goals with Christine Valente with three. Kaminsky leads all skaters with seven points. Additionally, five of the nine power play goals scored have come from freshman.
Last Five Games
Jessica Kaminsky and Christine Valente leads all Union skaters in points with three in the last five games. When Stefanie Thomson has been on the ice, the team has skated with a +4 while Shenae Lundberg has boasted a 2.15 goals against average with a .922 save percentage.
Fire Away
When Union shoots the puck at least 30 times a game, the Dutchwomen are 2-0-1 in those games. In conference games, Christine Valente leads all skaters in shots with 16 and is tied with Jessica Kaminsky in points with two in conference play.

When the Dutchwomen have scored the first goal and leading after one, Union holds a 2-2-1 record against opponents.
Record Book Watch
With the Dutchwomen's win against Syracuse, Shenae Lundberg notched her third win of her career, putting her tied for tenth in all-time wins in program history with three. Lundberg current save percentage of .911 ranks fifth best in a season behind former teammate and current Volunteer Assistant Coach Kate Gallagher. Teammate Alana Marcinko has six wins which ranks tied for third in team history. In addition, one more shutout will give the netminder the all-time record in career shutouts. Forward Stefanie Thomson is now tenth all-time in career goals with 13 along with Kelly Lannan (2003-2007) and Melissa Johnson (1999-2000). Christine Valente matched her season-high of three power play goals last year with her score against Quinnipiac. Valente needs one more to tie the program high in power play goals in one season. Only two Dutchwomen skaters have accomplished this feat, Lauren Hoffman (2008-09) and Elizabeth Flanagan (2001-02). Additionally, she ranks tied for fourth in career power play goals with former teammate Marissa Gentile (2007-2011) and Meghan O'Connor (2003-2007) with six.
Going for No. 20
Coach Claudia Asano Barcomb has won 19 games for the Dutchwomen in her six seasons with the program. With a win, the coach will be 10 wins away from the all-time wins mark set by Fred Quistgard who was the coach from 1999 to 2004 who compiled a 30-97-6 record during his tenure.
Play Fair
The Dutchwomen average 6.91 minutes of penalty time per game while opponents have averaged 11 minutes per game. Currently the Dutchwomen are the fourth lowest penalized team in Division I and second lowest in the ECAC.
Road Warriors
Courtney Turner leads all Union skaters with three goals and a .429 shooting percentage in away contests. Jessica Kaminsky and Kathryn Tomaselli have also scored goals away from Messa Rink this season.
Game-Tying Goals
Rhianna Kurio's last minute game-tying goal against the Tigers puts her with only five other skaters in the ECAC with game-tying goals this season.
ECAC Accolades
Goaltender Shenae Lundberg was honored by ECAC Hockey as Goaltender of the Week on November 13 for her performance against Quinnipiac and Princeton. The netminder made 57 saves in the two games while compiling an 1.39 goals against average. This is the second time the goaltender has won the award this season.
Program First
The last time the Dutchwomen played against the Tigers, Union was able to earn their first point against Princeton in Schenectady, N.Y. However, the Dutchwomen have never tied or won at Baker Rink in eight appearances dating back to February 5, 2005.
Hamden Blues
The Dutchwomen have never won against the Bobcats and have earned four ties in their 22 matches played. In Hamden, Conn., Union is 0-11-1 with their one tie dating back to November 5, 2004 in a 3-3 draw.
First Year Success
Jessica Kaminsky is ranked tied for 11th among all ECAC freshman skaters in points with seven. Courtney Turner is not far behind as she is ranked tied for 14th in the same category.
