SCHENECTADY, NY –
Junior goaltender Troy Grosenick made 29 saves, but No. 16 Quinnipiac (9-3-2, 5-0-0 ECAC Hockey) scored two goals in the second and third periods to earn a 4-0 win over No. 7/8 men's ice hockey (8-3-1, 3-2-0 ECAC Hockey) in front of 1,607 fans at Messa Rink.

The loss marked Union's first shutout at Messa Rink since a 4-0 loss to Yale last season on Nov. 12, 2011, and snapped a 10-game unbeaten streak (8-0-2) at home in ECAC Hockey play, dating back to the same contest.

Quinnipiac forward Jeremy Langlois had two goals and an assist, and Russell Goodman had three assists to lead the offensive effort for the Bobcats. Goaltender Eric Hartzell made 20 saves in net to earn the shutout, as the Bobcats remained unbeaten in their last seven games (6-0-1).

Langlois broke a scoreless tie at 15:21 of the second period, as Loren Barron found him open between the hash marks for an easy tip-in goal to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead. The Bobcats would add another goal just over two minutes later, as Travis St. Denis scored on a rebound off a shot by Langlois at 17:25.

Langlois would add his second of the game midway through the third period, deflecting Russell Goodman's shot from the point past Grosenick at 9:22. Quinnipiac's Ben Arnt would close out the scoring at 14:01, putting in a rebound of a two-on-one shot by Goodman to give the Bobcats a 4-0 advantage.

In the opening period, Union did not register a shot on goal until the 10:16 mark, with Quinnipiac's Zach Tolkinen in the penalty box for tripping. The Dutchmen had four shots on the man advantage, including two great chances by senior forward Wayne Simpson, who was stopped twice in the slot by Hartzell.

Union had another great chance later in the period when Simpson forced a turnover behind the Quinnipiac net, but Hartzell made a great save on senior forward Kyle Bodie, and stopped another shot by sophomore forward Daniel Ciampini at 13:37 of the opening frame.

The Dutchmen held a 12-11 shot advantage after the first period of play, but were outshot 22-8 the rest of the way, and 33-20 for the contest.

Union finished 0-for-3 on the man advantage, while holding Quinnipiac scoreless in five power play chances.

Union returns to Messa Rink tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. to take on Princeton. The team will be collection donations for the American Cancer Society as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer initiative.
