Dutchmen now 4-1 after 83-63 basketball win over Cobleskill


 
SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior guard Joe Mason scored 21 points with eight rebounds and the Union College men's basketball team won for the fourth time in five games, 83-63 over Cobleskill at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Flying Tigers fell to 1-6 for the season.

Mason also had five assists and two steals and Keven Donohue scored 18 points with six rebounds while making all six free throws. Brian DeBisschop scored a career high 11 points and made five of his six shots. The Dutchmen shot 53% for the night, including 56% in the first half when they had a 46-26 lead. Union outrebounded Cobleskill, 43-25.

Travis Woods and Kareem Bernard led Cobleskill with 10 points each. Tyrone Mitchell had nine points and a team high four boards and Brandon Tuttle also scored nine points for the Flying Tigers, who shot 44% for the day.

The Dutchmen led 7-5 with 2:50 gone in the first half, then went on a 16-5 run for a 23-10 lead with 11:22 left to play after a three pointer by Mason. The Duthcmen led by 10 with 6:01 left and closed the half with a 15-5 run for the 46-26 lead at the end of the period. While posting the 56% shooting mark (18 of 32) in the half, the hosts held the visitors to 30% shooting.

Union's largest lead of the second half was 27 (53-26 with 16:23 left). Cobleskill got to within 19 at 67-48 with 8:07 remaining.

The Dutchmen will play Thursday, December 6 at Southern Vermont, then will open up Liberty League play Saturday, December 8 at RIT.
