Tancrell-Fontaine scores first career goal in 1-1 tie against Yale

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Alex Tancrell-Fontaine nets a game-tying power play goal to give the Dutchwomen a 1-1 draw against the Bulldogs Friday night.

Union (3-8-3, 0-4-3) and Yale (2-10-1, 1-5-1) now are tied in 10th as Rensselaer defeated Brown 3-0 tonight to breakup the four-way tie.

Despite outshooting the Bulldogs 9-7 in the first period, Yale was able to put up the game's first goal when Jamie Haddad was able to slip one by netminder Shenae Lundberg. Janelle Ferrara was able to set up Haddad for the game's first goal. Immediately after, the Dutchwomen were able to draw a penalty but could not generate a goal. Christine Valente tested goaltender Jamue Leonoff with a redirect but the netminder was able to come up with the save.

Union was able to go on the power play again in the second period as the Dutchwomen began to develop some momentum on offense. However, the Yale penalty kill was able to endure the man-advantage and keep the one-goal advantage. Momentum seemed to swing in the Bulldogs favor as Danielle Moncion and Kate Martini had open looks to the net. Lundberg and the Dutchwomen defense were able to prevent the Bulldogs from more scoring.

A third penalty on the Bulldogs proved to be costly as Alex-Tancrell Fontaine netted her first goal of her career on a second chance slap shot. Initially, her first attempt hit went wide as Ashley Johnston and Christine Valente were able to get it back to Tancrell-Fontaine in which she was able to find the net through several screens to level the score.

The third period the Dutchwomen were able to gain the shot advantage throughout the period as several skaters were searching for the go-ahead goal. However, the Bulldogs' defense did not break and were able to take the match into overtime.

The Dutchwomen attack did not let up as they held all of the offense in extra time. Holding a 4-0 shot advantage, Union nearly had the game-deciding goal with an Emma Rambo shot. Leonoff denied the attempt with a great blocker save to end the game at one all.

Shots were in favor of Union 31-21 but the faceoff advantage was held by Yale with a 31-24 edge.

Leonoff's record stands at 2-10-1 while making 30 saves. Lundberg tallies her third save of the season with a 2-5-3 record making 20 saves.

Union will be back at Messa Rink tomorrow afternoon as the Dutchwomen will host Brown at 4:00 p.m. Yale will be traveling to Troy, N.Y. as the Bulldogs will play the Engineers of RPI tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. as well.
