NEW HAVEN, CT – Seniors Wayne Simpson and Greg Coburn each scored power play goals, as No. 12 Union men's hockey (8-3-4, 3-2-3 ECAC Hockey) tied No. 15 Yale (6-3-2, 3-3-1 ECAC Hockey) in front of 3,500 fans at Ingalls Rink.

Union took a 2-0 lead early in the third period on Coburn's power play goal. Coburn cut in from the point on a backdoor play and finished into an open net off a feed from sophomore forward Daniel Ciampini at 3:38 of the third period

Yale clawed back into the game as Charles Orzetti answered just over a minute later, scoring on a rebound off a shot from Anton Laganiere at 5:25.

The Bulldogs would tie the score at 2-2 on a rush up ice as Andrew Miller fired a low shot on junior goaltender Troy Grosenick (32 saves). Grosenick made a kick save, but Gus Young was there to put in the rebound at 15:22.

Late in the third period, Union killed off Yale's eighth power play of the contest with Ciampini in the penalty box for roughing at 17:06. Union finished the night a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill and have now killed off 26 of 27 over the past six games.

Ciampini nearly won the game for Union in overtime, beating the Yale defense down the right wing, but his wrist shot went over the shoulder of goaltender Jeff Malcolm (33 saves) and wide of the net.

Union, which outshot Yale, 35-34 for the game, held a sizable advantage on shots in the early stages of the contest, but Grosenick was forced made his best save of the frame on a Yale 2-on-1 opportunity, smothering Carson Cooper's shot from the circle at 6:11.

The Dutchmen entered the game with the nation's No. 1 power play, converting a 5-on-3 man advantage midway through the period. With Yale's Cooper in the penalty box for roughing, Antoine Laganierie hauled down freshman defenseman Sebastien Gingras in the Union zone, giving the Dutchmen 1:31 seconds of 5-on-3 power play time.

Coburn found Simpson on the goal line to the right side of Malcolm. Simpson skated out in front of the net and fired a shot off the far post and in to put Union up 1-0 at 11:42. Senior forward Kyle Bodie also picked up an assist on the play, as the Dutchmen finished 2-for-4 on the man advantage.

The Dutchmen penalty kill and Grosenick helped Union maintain a one-goal lead in the second period, as the Dutchmen killed off three consecutive Yale power plays in a span of 7:17.

Junior forward Josh Jooris started the run of penalties when he was sent off for interference at 4:38. Grosenick made a stop on Yale's Miller on the power play, but the Union penalty kill kept the Bulldogs from setting up for most of the man advantage.

At 7:13, Coburn took a tripping penalty and Grosenick made two excellent saves to keep Union in front. The first came on a low wrist shot by Miller from the slot and the second, a left pad save on Clinton Bourbanais, nearly resulted in a Yale goal, but the play was blown dead with the Union net off the moorings.

Coburn took another penalty at 9:21 for boarding, but the Union penalty kill once again allowed little set up time for Yale's power play, which came into the contest ranked 14^th in the nation at 20.4%.
Union will have the next two weekends off before traveling to the University of Vermont for the Catamount Cup on Dec. 29, as the Dutchmen will take on host UVM at 7:05 p.m.
