SCHENECTADY, NY -- Senior guard Stefan Thompson scored a game best 26 points and sophomore guard Connor Rehbaum had a double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to pace the Hobart College men's basketball team to an 82-70 win at Union College's Viniar Athletic Center Tuesday night. The Statesmen moved to 5-1 in league play and 9-6 overall while the Dutchmen fell to 6-2 in the league and 14-3 for the season.
Keven Donohue scored 24 points, and had his fifth 20 or more point game this season, including his fourth in the last five games. He also added six rebounds.
Joe Mason scored 16 with four assists and
Terell Winney scored 13 with six rebounds. Union shot 44% for the game.
Donohue now has 1,299 career points, and moved from tied for ninth entering the night to eighth by himself in Union career scoring rankings. He is thus on the verge of becoming just the eighth player in program history to record 1,300 career points.
Hobart led by eight, 42-34, at the half. Thompson had exactly half of the team's points in that first half, making seven on nine shots. Union got to within two at 45-43 with 15:35 left on a Winney layup, but the Statesmen went on a 15-6 run in the next 4:10. Two free throws by Trey Blanding provided the 60-49 score. Union got as close as six at 60-54 on two free throws by
Matt Petrone with 8:23 left, but a 7-0 run in the next 2:11 provided a 65-54 Hobart lead, capped by a Bonney three pointer, and it remained a double digit lead the rest of the contest.
Union will host St. Lawrence Friday night at 8 p.m. and then play Saturday at Skidmore at 4 p.m.
