Keith Callies matched his season high with 14 points in Union's 81-63 Liberty League men's basketball win over Bard at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen won for the 10th straight contest and stands 11-1 overall and 3-0 to lead the league. The Raptors are now 3-6 for the season and 0-2 in league action.
The last time Union was 11-1 was on Februrary 15, 1957 when the Dutchmen lost at Norwich to end an 11 game winning streak that started the season.
Joe Mason had a game high eight assists for the Dutchmen, and Callies dished out five of his own. Union had 21 assists for the game and only turned the ball over five times for the game. Mason and Donohue each had six rebounds and
Brian DeBisschop added five boards off the bench for the Dutchmen, who shot 52% and had a 33-25 advantage in rebounds.
Siondueh Burnette matched Donohue with 16 points for Bard, while Lamar Powell scored 12 and Berk Atuk had a team high seven rebounds. Pat Lichtenstein added eight points and the Raptors shot 49% for the game.
Union took a 43-29 lead into the half. Bard got as close as 10 with 6:38 left on ajumper by Powell that made it 66-56. It had capped a 10-4 run by Bard in a span of 2:34. But Union got the lead up to 20 with 34 seconds left, as a 15-5 run in 6:08 was capped off by a three pointer by
Laurent Firlotte.
The Dutchmen continue Liberty League home action next weekend when they face local rivals Skidmore Friday night at 8 p.m. and RPI Saturday at 4 p.m.
