CAMBRIDGE, MA – Union rallied from a two-goal deficit to remain unbeaten in league play, downing Harvard 4-2 at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center. The victory completed a weekend sweep after Union defeated Dartmouth on Friday.
The Dutchmen (3-2-2, 2-0-0) used a dominating second period to pull themselves back in the game, outshooting Harvard, 22-4.
Daniel Ciampini scored twice in opening four minutes of the period to spark the comeback. His first marker occurred from the left faceoff circle just 23 seconds into the period. Ciampini then slammed home a loose puck in the slot at the 4:00 mark after
Sam Coatta's shot deflected off the pads of goaltender Steve Michalek. The short-handed goal started with a lead pass from
Mat Bodie, who was credited with the second assist.
The game winner was provided by senior
Daniel Carr, who laced a slapshot from atop the left circle at 14:23. The goal was the 60
th of Carr's career, making him the school's all-time Division I goal-scoring leader.
Harvard (2-1-1, 1-1-1) jumped to a 2-0 lead on first period goals from Greg Gozzo and Ryan McGregor. Gozzo swatted a puck in the air, off his own rebound, that withstood the scrutiny of video review while McGregor, attempting to win a faceoff, whirled around the dot and wristed a quick shot past
Colin Stevens at 18:18.
Matt Hatch sealed the win for Union, scoring an empty net goal at 19:35.
Max Novak assisted on the play for his third assist of the night.
Union returns home to host ECAC foes Colgate (Nov. 8) and Cornell (Nov. 9) at Messa Rink.
