SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College women's ice hockey closes out the 2013 calendar year with a two-game home series against Maine on Friday and Saturday.

The Dutchwomen will welcome the struggling Black Bears to the confines of Messa Rink on Friday at 7 p.m. The teams will play game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. A year ago the Dutchwomen swept the Black Bears on the road in Orno wtih final scores of 4-3 and 3-2.

Last Time Out
The Dutchwomen return home for their final games of 2013 after hitting the road last weekend after a two week break from action. Union traveled to #8 Quinnipiac and Princeton. Union fell behind early in both games and were unable to recover. The Dutchwomen fell to nationally ranked Quinnipiac 4-2 on Friday afternoon before suffering a similar defeat on Saturday at Princeton.
  • Just under the six-minute mark of the first period, Darkangelo took a feed from Babstock along the left flank, skated across the crease and after a deke on junior goalie Shenae Lundberg, she deposited her first goal of the game to give the Bobcats an early lead.
  • Midway through the period, Darkangelo benefitted from a Bobcat-friendly bounce when she took control of the puck above the blue line in Union's defensive zone. Darkangelo attempted a pass to Babstock in the left face-off circle, but a Union stick popped the puck up into the air. As it was descended to the ice, it appear to head towards the Union goal. A bounce in the crease eluded the Lundberg and gave Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead after the first period.
  • In the second period Anna Borgfeldt scored her second goal of the year when she picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated to the outside on a Union defender and through the puck on goal.
  • Union responded two minutes later when sophomore forward Kathryn Tomaselli scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Junior defenseman Haley Welch held the puck at the point before firing a shot on goal. Laden denied Welch but the loose puck was cleaned up by Tomaselli who scored glove-side on Laden to cut Quinnipiac's lead to two goals, 3-1.
  • Tomaselli scored her second her second goal of the night on the power play. Quinnipiac had two players in the box and were fighting off a 5-on-3 Dutchwomen advantage when senior captain Ashley Johnston fired a shot on goal. Tomaselli was waiting just outside the crease where she was able to tip it past Laden to cut Quinnipiac's lead to a goal, 3-2.
  • Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg finished the game with 33 saves, her second high save total of the season.
  • On Saturday junior defenseman Alex Tancrell-Fontaine chipped in her first goal of the season during the second period to bring her point total on the season to eight (1-7-8). She was set up by junior defenseman Kelly McGrath and sophomore forward Kathryn Tomaselli on the play.
  • Princeton took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of a short-handed goal from Olivia Mucha.
  • Princeton extended its lead to 3-0 in the second session. Junior defender Ali Pankwoski, who on Friday picked up a helper on a blast from the blue line, found the back of the net herself at the 14:28 mark of the middle period. Only 3:30 later, sophomore Cristin Shanahan registered a goal from the left slot on the rush.
  • Junior goaltender Shenae Lundberg made 29 saves in goal for the Dutchwomen.
