SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College women's ice hockey travels to Quinnipiac and Princeton this weekend looking to improve upon their 2-4 ECAC record.

The Dutchwomen hit the road again after a two week break from action. Two weeks ago they split a home ECAC series against Brown and Yale. The Dutchwomen secured their second ECAC victory of the season in a 2-1 win over Brown on Friday night. They followed that performance in a shootout game against Yale. Despite a late comeback the Dutchwomen fell to the Bulldogs 4-6 on Saturday afternoon.

Scouting the #8 Bobcats
The eighth ranked Bobcats are off to a fast start this season.  They currently sit fifth in the ECAC standings with a 3-2-4 record against league opponents but are 12-2-5 overall. The Bobcats come in hot, boasting the fourth longest unbeaten streak in the nation after taking take Yale and RIT to claim the Nutmeg Classic Championship last weekend.
  • Quinnipiac boasts the fourth best scoring defense in the country, allowing only 1.16 goals/game through their first 19 games.
  • The Bobcats have been solid on both sides of special teams in the first half of the season. They currently rank eighth in the nation in penalty kill (88.9%) and tenth in the nation in power play percentage (18.7). They have tallied 14 power play goals on the season.
  • Like the Dutchwomen, the Bobcats stay out of the penalty box. They currently sit last in the nation in penalty minutes (6.8/game).
  • The Bobcats are led offensively by senior forward Kelly Babstock, who currently is fourth in the nation in scoring with 1.58 P/GM (11-29-30). She is followed by junior transfer Shiann Darkangelo who has racked up 17 points (11-6-17) in the first half of the season.
  • The Bobcats are relatively young along the blue line but still boast a wealth of talent. Senior Shelby Wignall is the only upperclassmen on defense for Quinnipiac as she comes into this weekend with as a +7. Sophomore Cydney Roesler leads the defensive corps in offensive categories with eight points (1-7-8) and is a +13. All six Quinnipiac defensemen are +7 or better on the season.
  • The Bobcats strongest position has been between the pipes this season. Junior goaltender Chelsea Laden ranks top three in the nation in shutouts (5), save percentage (.948) and goals-against-average (1.06). She has allowed only 18 goals in 17 appearances this season.

Scouting the Tigers

Princeton currently finds themselves at the middle of the ECAC pack with 9 points and a 4-4-1 conference record. The Tigers have amassed an overall record of 5-6-2. The Tigers head into the weekend on a losing streak after dropping 0-6 and 1-9 decisions to Minnesota last weekend.
  • Like Union, Princeton has struggled on the penalty kill, killing off penalties only 73.3% of the time in the first half of the season. The Tigers have also struggled on the power play, recording only five power play goals on 47 attempts.
  • Princeton was hurt after last weekend's losses to Minnesota as they dropped to 31st in the nation in scoring defense, giving up 3.54 goals per game.
  • Princeton is led offensively by senior forwards Sally Butler (1-8-9) and Olivia Mucha (5-2-7). Sophomore Jaimie McDonell has also chipped in eight points (3-5-8) on the season.
  • Senior Rose Alleva leads the Tigers along the blue line. The offensive defenseman is currently tied for the team lead in goals (5) and points (9). She leads a seasoned blue line that boasts two seniors and two juniors.
  • Goaltending duties have been handled mainly by sophomore Kimberly Newell. She has amassed a record of 4-6-2 while posting a .893 save-percentage and 3.69 goals-against-average. Neither Newell or junior Ashley Holt have been able to record a shutout through their first 13 games.
