POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Vassar advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 Men's Tennis Liberty League Championships Saturday afternoon with a perfect, 5-0 win over No. 7 seed Union College men's tennis team.
With the loss, Union finishes the 2012-13 season with a record of 3-8.
After a clean sweep of the three doubles matches, Vassar's Daniel Cooper and Josh Keppler finished the opening round at the No. 4 and No. 6 singles spots, respectively. Cooper defeated freshman
Spencer Fontein, 6-1, 6-1 while Kessler topped senior
Andrew Schwartz, 6-1, 6-0.
The No. 2 seed Brewers (8-12) will next face No. 3 seed Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at 2:00 pm on Sunday. No. 1 Skidmore College defeated No. 8 Bard College, 5-0 and will next face No. 4 St. Lawrence University after the Saints defeated No. 5 Hobart College, 5-2. The Thoroughbreds and Saints will face off at 10:00 am.
Cooper teamed with senior Andrew Guzick for an 8-2 win over Union's Taylor Moor and
Grant Zaccareo. Kessler paired with freshman Christian Phelps for an 8-2 victory over Union's
