Netminder Lundberg participating in USA Hockey Warren Sterlow Camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore goaltender Shenae Lundberg has been invited to participate in the 2013 USA Hockey Warren Strelow Camp this spring.

The camp is held in Ann Arbor, Michigan from May 9-12 at the "Cube", the official home rink of the USA Hockey National Development Team Program.  This upcoming camp consists of 24 males and 12 females.

The USA Hockey Warren Strelow Camp is made up of the top goaltenders at the high school and collegiate level throughout the country.   Mike Ayers (USA Hockey Men's National Team Goaltending Coach-click here) is the Director for the Warren Strelow Camp and will oversee all participants (12 female goaltenders and 24 male goaltenders).  Ayers was a four-year standout at the University of New Hampshire (2000-04) where he appeared in 102 games and compiled a 58-25-12 record. The netminder was named USA Hockey's College Player of the Year in 2003, the same season he earned American Hockey Coaches Association/JOFA East Second Team All-America honors.

Lundberg commented, “being selected to the Warren Strelow Program is a great opportunity. The program is the highest level of selection that a goaltender can be recognized by in their national team progression. It's my understanding that all National Team goalies are selected from this pool. I need to bring my “A” game but more important I need to remain coachable as the program takes your style and helps you build on it. Additionally, I hope that being selected by USA Hockey will translate into something positive for Union and the Dutchwomen's Ice Hockey Program.  This is my fourth selection to the program and the level of talent both learning and training is exceptional. The friends I have made over the years and the things I've learned from them and the staff has helped me to be the netminder that I am. Regarding next season, I will take what I learn and will be training and instructing all summer to prepare myself for next season where it is my goal to try and get us to the playoffs!"

Assistant Coach, Ali Boe, a former goaltender at Harvard also stated, “it is a tremendous opportunity for Shenae to go and train with the other elite goaltenders in the United States.  She will be able to challenge herself at the highest level.  Additionally, she has this opportunity because of her strong play throughout our season and the scouts realized how valuable her play was to our team's success.  We are excited that Shenae gets to represent Union Hockey at this camp.”

This is the first goaltender from the women's ice hockey team that has been invited to the camp in program history as well as the first under Head Coach Claudia Asano Barcomb.
