Dutchwomen swim past Engineers

Belforti led the Dutchwomen past the Engineers after taking three event victories on Friday evening.

TROY, N.Y. – The Union College women's swimming and diving team defeated backyard rival RPI 138-102 on Friday evening at Robison Pool.

The Dutchwomen posted 10 event victories to defeat the Engineers. Christina Belforti led the way with three event victories. Belforti led the 200 yard medley relay team of Rachel Clegg, Brittany Kenny and Emily Opolski to a win with a time of 1:55.71. Belforti also captured event victories in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.76) and 100 yard backstroke (1:02.81)

Other event victors included Anne Trojanowksi (10:50.49 in the 1000 yard freestyle and 5:18.08 in the 500 yard freestyle), Alexis Wojtowicz (25.41 in the 50 yard freestyle), Emily Opolski (2:17.32 in the 200 yard individual medley), Brittany Kenney (56.2 in the 100 yard freestyle) and Rachel Clegg (1:10.32 in the 100 yard breaststroke). The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Wojtowicz, Trojanowksi, Maddie Ashworth and Christy Brown also took home first place in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Other notable finishes included Maddie Ashworth (third place in the 100 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle),  Kenny (second in the 200 yard freestyle), Christy Brown (second place in the 50 yard freestyle), Rachel Clegg (second place in the 200 yard individual medley), Wojtowicz (second place in the 100 yard butterfly), Brown (second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle), Naina Thota (third place in the 100 yard freestyle), Opolski (second place in the 100 yard backstroke) and Lily Suhanovsky (third place in the 100 yard breaststroke).

The Dutchwomen return to action tomorrow when they travel Middlebury College for a 2 p.m. matchup with the Panthers.
