Dutchwomen split dual meet with Springfield and Hartwick

Junior Anne Trojanowski earned an event victory in the 200 yard butterfly to help the Dutchwomen split their dual meet with Hartwick and Springfield.

Springfield, MA – The Union College women's swimming team split their dual meet with Springfield and Hartwick on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Springfield College. The Dutchwomen defeated Hartwick by a score of 150 to 138 and fell to Springfield by a score of 166-127.

 Their victory over Hartwick was fueled by 25 top-five finishes and six first-place finishes. Freshman Christina Belforti led the Dutchwomen by posting three event victories on the day. Her first victory came when she posted a time of 1:01.86 in the 100 yard backstroke. She followed that performance by claiming the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.16. Belforti rounded out her day by posting a time of 59.99 in the 100 yard butterfly to earn her third event victory.

Junior Anne Trojanowski also captured a win in the 200 yard butterfly after finishing with a time of 2:16.69. Sophomore Brittany Kenny earned the final individual event victory when she posted a time of 2:16.83 in the 200 yard individual medley. The Dutchwomen closed out the day when they earned a victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The squad of Belforti, Trojanowski, freshman Christy Brown and senior Emily Opolski posted a time of 1:43.6.

Sophomore Sarah Dimmitt claimed fifth place in the one meter and three meter diving events with scores of 185.85 and 165.4 respectively.

Other notable finishers include the 200 yard medley relay team of Opolski, senior Rachel Clegg, Kenny and freshman Alexis Wojtowicz who captured second place with a time of 1:57.06, Kenny, who placed second in the 200 yard butterfly, Opolski, who placed third in the 200 yard backstroke, Clegg who earned third place in the 200 yard breaststroke and 200 yard individual medley, and Wojtowicz, who claimed third place in the 100 yard butterfly.

The Dutchwomen return to action on January 17 when they travel to Troy to take on Liberty League rival RPI at 6 p.m.
