SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College Dutchwomen fell to Penn State by a score of 4-1 on Friday night.
Kathryn Tomaselli notched her second goal of the season in the loss. Union falls to 1-4 on the year while Penn State improves to 2-2-1.
The Nittany Lions started the scoring at the 11:19 mark of the first period as Caitlin Reilly had her shot sail right over
Shenae Lundberg's outstretched glovehand.
Shannon Yoxheimer made it 2-0 Penn State just under seven minutes into the second stanza. Lundberg intially made the save on Yoxheimer's shot but the puck trickled through Lundberg's five-hole and across the line to give PSU the two-goal edge.
Union saw Penn State's lead grow to 3-0 at the 17:21 mark of the second as Amy Peterson flicked in the rebound over Lundberg's shoulder. Lundberg made a great one-on-one save against Hanna Hoenshell but the puck found Peterson on the rebound who was able to put it in.
The Dutchwomen were able to cut the deficit to 3-1 with just under six minutes to play as Tomaselli deflected in
Alex Tancrell-Fontaine's slap shot from just under the blue line past the Nittany Lion goaltender.
Jessica Kaminsky picked up her second assist of the season of the play.
Penn State was able to add an empty netter with 1:09 remaining to provide the 4-1 final.
Lundberg recorded 32 saves for Union while PSU's Celine Whitlinger saved 20 shots.
The Dutchwomen will look to bounce back against these same Nittany Lions tomorrow afternoon. The puck is set to drop at 2:00 PM inside Messa Rink.
