Vermont Takes Weekend Finale Against Dutchwomen

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Union College Dutchwomen dropped their second consecutive 4-0 decision to Vermont on Saturday afternoon to fall to 1-6-1 on the season. The Catamounts moved to 5-2-1 with the win.

Union had a chance early as they put three shots on net during the powerplay against Vermont's freshman goaltender Molly Depew but she stood tall to keep it scoreless.

The Catamounts would strike first on their own power play minutes later. Victoria Andreakos cut to the slot and fired a shot that was stopped initially by Union goaltender Shenae Lundberg. Brittany Zuback corralled the rebound from the side of the net and put it home for her fourth goal of the season at the 4:26 mark.

Vermont scored again three minutes later off a stretch of extended time in the offensive zone. Sarah Campbell scored her first of the season with a backhand shot through traffic. Mackenzie MacNeil earned her first collegiate point with an assist on the play.

After a scoreless second period, Vermont added to their lead early in the third. Bridget Baker gathered a loose puck at the faceoff circle, skated to the slot and roofed a backhand shot for her third goal of the season.

Pelkey closed out the scoring for the Catamounts with 12:36 left in the third period. She stepped through some traffic and walked in alone on Lundberg and fired a quick low shot to pick up her fourth goal of the season.

Depew earned her first career shutout and win, making a total of 13 saves on the afternoon. Lundberg stopped 23 shots in the loss.

The Dutchwomen will be back in action next weekend as they begin ECAC play on the road against Dartmouth and Harvard.
