SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College Dutchwomen ran their unbeaten streak to three games on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 tie in the series finale against the University of Maine.
Kathryn Davis fired home a shot from the middle of the faceoff circle to break a 0-0 tie 4:59 minutes into the second period. With Union on the powerplay,
Jessica Kaminsky slid over a pass to
Alex Tancrell-Fontaine at the top of the slot who sent the puck to Davis who rifled it home to give the Dutchwomen the 1-0 edge. Union has now scored on the powerplay in three of their last four games.
Maine responded later in period as Hailey Browne intercepted a pass in the Union zone and proceeded to make a great move with a 1-on-1 chance against
Shenae Lundberg. Browne got Lundberg to lean the other way and Browne was able to deposit the puck into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
Audra Richards of Maine had a great opportunity to give the Black Bears a few minutes later but her shot drilled the post and sailed wide.
Richards' scoring chance proved to be the last great opportunity for either team as both defenses stepped up in the final period and overtime sessions not allowing either to gain many opportunities on the offensive end. Lundberg made nine of her 21 saves in the final 25 minutes and Meghann Treacy also made nine stops over the final 25 minutes to keep the score deadlocked at 1-1.
For the game, Maine outshot the Dutchwomen 22-21. Union finished with a 29-28 advantage in the faceoff circle led by
Rebecca Babiak's 13-7 mark.
The Garnet and White will now be off for 19 days for the holidays but will return to action on January 2nd and 3rd to host Quinnipiac and Princeton.
