SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union opened its Liberty League season with an 8-1 loss to Vassar at the Union Tennis Courts Saturday afternoon.
The No. 2 doubles team of
Grant Zaccareo and
Spencer Fontein, playing together for the first time, earned Union's lone point with an 8-6 win over Juan Felipe Laso and Conrad Thurstone. Fontein later lost in a three-set marathon match at No. 4 singles to Thurstone, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
Brendan Conry Jr. made his first start ever at No. 3 singles, falling in straight sets to Laso. At No. 1 singles,
T.J. Moor was down a set, and trailed 4-2, when he retired.
The "U' closes the fall portion of its schedule next Saturday, playing host to Hobart.
