SCHENECTADY, NY - The Union College women's ice hockey program fell in the second consecutive ECAC matchup of the new year, losing to Princeton 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Senior goaltender
Shenae Lundberg posted her second straight game with more than 30 saves, finishing with 32. This is the 11th time she has stopped more than 30 shots in a contest this season.
The Dutchwomen almost broke through to the scoring column first as senior
Christine Valente had a fantastic look on a wide open net from the great feed off the stick of classmate
Alex Tancrell-Fontaine with 5:20 remaining in the first. However, Valente's point blank shot clanked off the post and the Tigers regained control on thew puck.
The teams remained scoreless until 4:05 left in the second period. Kelsey Koelzer riffled a shot from the top of the point and Hilary Lloyd was able to get her stick on it to redirect it past the outstretched leg of Lundberg.
Morgan Sly of Princeton made it 2-0 Tigers with 7:19 left in regulation and Fiona McKenna added the final goal with an unassisted empty netter with 2:13 to play.
Union will wrap up their season-long eight-game homestand as they welcome Harvard and Dartmouth to Messa Rink next weekend (Jan. 9th and 10th). The January 10th game against Dartmouth is the 8th Annual Pink at the Rink Game. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 4:00pm. The Dutchwomen ask all fans to please wear pink to show their support. Admission will be free to all Union students and all children 12 and under. Fans can also get in for free by making a donation to Kristen's Kause. The women's ice hockey team is dedicating this year's version of the Pink at the Rink Game to Union Hockey fan Kristen Shinebarger and Union student-athletes Justin Lloyd and Kaitlyn Suarez in their fights against cancer.
