TROY, NY- The Union College men's hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision to Rensselaer on Saturday evening at the Houston Field House. Union now stands 2-2-3 and the Engineers improved to 3-4. RPI is now 2-0 in ECAC Hockey play while the Dutchmen stand 0-2.
 Union's Alex Sackellaropoulos made 17 saves in the first period, and finished with 36 stops on the night. Jason Kasdorf made 27 saves for RPI.
Following a scoreless first period in which the Engineers held a 17-6 shots advantage, the hosts were finally able to break into the scoring column at 3:29 of the second. Jake Wood found Jared Wilson at the left point for a one-timer. RPI doubled its lead at 7:01 of the second, when Phil Hampton saw his shot deflect off a Union skater and into the net for his first of the season. Meirs Moore picked up his first collegiate assist on the goal.
Sebastien Gingras got the Dutchmen on the board on the power play at 4:03 of the third period, firing through a screen for his second of the campaign.
Michael Pontarelli and
Matt Wilkins had the assists. Mark Miller made it 3-1 RPI on the man up at 10:31 with assists from Riley Bourbonnais and Evan Tironese. Just 2:15 later, both teams had players in the penalty box making it a four-on-four game, when
Greg Campbell fed a pass to
Noah Henry who took a shot.
Ryan Scarfo was set up as the screen and when the puck came off of Kasdorf's pads and Scarfo banged it home on the left side for his team high fourth of the season\, and it came on a four-on-four.
The Dutchmen head to the North Country as they take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. and Sat. Nov 7 at 7 p.m., respectively.Â
