POTSDAM, NY-The Union College men's ice hockey team had a 4-1 victory over Clarkson at Cheel Arena on Saturday night.
Both teams were a little slow going into the first period, but
Eli Lichtenwald broke the spell when he tipped in a pass from
Brett Supinski and
Ryan Scarfo. Three minutes later,
Jeff Taylor found the back of the net when he took a pass from
Nick Cruice along the wall and blasted under the crossbar popping the water bottle. The Dutchmen entered the first period intermission leading 2-0
Goaltender
Alex Sakellaropoulos made 27 saves on the evening including 13 in the second period. Along with those saves,
Spencer Foo put Union up 3-0 when
Sebastien Gingras fed him a pass to the outside and he was able to blow past a defender and poke it in from cutting across the top of the crease.
Foo found the last Union goal in the third period when Scarfo fed him an early pass and he broke away for an empty net goal. Clarkson was able to score one fluke goal when Perry D'Arrisso place it from the side of Sakellaropoulos.
Union returns home to take on Brown and Yale on Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Messa Rink.
