Dutchmen set to close out 2015 against Vermont

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.--The Union College men's ice hockey team hosts the University of Vermont Sunday. Dec. 20, in its final game of 2015. 

JERSEY RAFFLE //
The team will be raffling off game worn throwback jerseys during Sunday's home game against Vermont. The jerseys are replicas of those worn during Union's inaugural NCAA Division I season, 1991-92.

Raffle tickets will be on sale at the door starting at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20 through the second intermission priced at 5$ for one ticket and 20$ for five with all proceeds going to the Garnet Blades.

SCOUTING VERMONT //
Vermont enters Sunday's game with a record of 5-11-2 overall and 3-5-2 in Hockey East. The Catamounts split a home-and-home series against St. Lawrence last weekend, beating the Saints 4-0 at home before falling 4-1 in Canton. The Catamounts were 22-15-4 last season, advancing to the Hockey East semifinal before losing to UMass Lowell. Vermont was a member of ECAC Hockey until 2005.

CATAMOUNT STAT LEADERS //
Vermont is led by Mario Puskarich, who has contributed a team-high 10 assists and 15 points and is a +3. Jarrid Privitera has netted a team-best eight goals and is tied for the team lead with a +5 rating, while ranking tied for second with 10 points. Alexx Privitera also has 10 points for the season on two goals and eight assists. Mike Santaquida has appeared in 16 of 18 games between the pipes and holds a 4-9-2 record with a 2.70 GAA and a .911 save pct. to go along with one shutout. 

SNEDDON RETURNS TO UNION //
Vermont head coach Kevin Sneddon, who has compiled a record of 194-215-62 in 13 seasons with the Catamounts, was an assistant coach at Union from 1993 until he became the head coach in 1998. Sneddon coached the Dutchmen from 1998 to 2003, producing a record of 50-99-18.

SERIES AGAINST THE CATAMOUNTS //
Vermont leads the all-time series in Union's Division I era, 17-10-2, and has won four of the last five meetings. The teams last met March 28, 2014 in the NCAA East Regional semifinal in Bridgeport, Conn. with the Dutchmen posting a 5-2 win. Max Novak and Matt Hatch each had two goals, Kevin Sullivan produced three assists and Daniel Carr had a pair of assists in the win. The Dutchmen are 4-1 in their last five home games against the Catamounts.  

LAST TIME OUT //
Sebastian Vidmar scored with nine seconds remaining in overtime to lift Union to a 4-3 win at Massachusetts on Dec. 11. Vidmar, Mike Vecchione, Ryan Scarfo and Spencer Foo each produced a goal and an assist. In goal, Alex Sakellaropoulos made 22 saves on 25 shots, including 11 in the second period.

HOW SWEDE IT IS //
Vidmar's goal extended the Dutchmen's unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) and gave them their first overtime victory since a 3-2 win at Notre Dame on Nov. 28, 2014. Union entered Friday's contest with an 0-2-4 record in overtime games this season. Vidmar also extended his point streak to three games (2 g, 2 a).

AGAINST HOCKEY EAST //
With the win, the Dutchmen improved to 4-1-1 against Hockey East foes this season and 15-2-2 in their last 19 contests against Hockey East opponents.
