SCHENECTADY, NY- With 1:12 remaining in the third period,
Elizabeth Otten fired a slap shot from the top of the left circle over Colgate's Ashylnne Rando's shoulder to tie the game at 2-2. Then in the overtime session, Katelyn Parker was taken down on the break away by
Haley Welch, giving the Raiders' forward a penalty shot.
Shenae Lundberg made the huge clutch save as Parker tried to go right to keep the game tied en route to the 2-2 final.
After two scoreless periods,
Christine Valente got Union on the scoreboard 2:10 minutes into the third period.
Kathryn Tomaselli gathered the puck behind the net and dished it to a wide open Valente gliding towards the crease. Valente was able to finish to give the Dutchwomen the 1-0 lead.
Colgate answered just eight second later as Shelby Perry took the puck off of the faceoff right down the ice and beat Lundberg over her shoulder to even the score.
The Raiders took a 2-1 advantage with 2:22 left in the third as Cat Quirion scored off the pass from Katie Case.
Union added an extra attacker with 1:52 to go in the third to try and pot the equalizer. 40 seconds later, Otten one-timed the puck from
Alex Tancrell-Fontaine to even the score. The assist from Tancrell-Fontaine, gave her 35 in her career, tying her with Elizabeth Flanagan for second place all-time, one behind Valente's mark of 36.
In the overtime, following Lundberg's big save on the penalty shot, the Garnet and White outshot the Raiders 4-1 but could not find the game-winning goal.
Lundberg finished the game with 36 saves, giving her 2,990 saves in her career. She will look to become the 21st member of NCAA's 3,000-saves club in the season finale tomorrow against Cornell.
After the game against the Big Red, Union will honor their six seniors (Lundberg,
Kelly McGrath,
Bryanne Panchuk, Tancrell-Fontaine, Welch and Valente) with a post-game ceremony.
