WILTON, N.Y. – Union opened the spring portion of its 2014-15 campaign with a 9-0 loss to Skidmore in Liberty League indoor action from the Wilton YMCA.  Skidmore (3-1/3-0 LL), the reigning Liberty League champions, are favored to defend their title according to the league's preseason poll.

Ranked 27th nationally in the ITA Preseason Division III poll, the Thoroughbreds did not drop a set in Sunday's dual match, winning in straight sets in the singles and doubles flights.  

The Dutchmen were bolstered by the return of two starters who did not see action in the fall.  Anthony Laurencio earned his first assignment at No. 2 singles since 2013 and won three games in a straight-set loss to Kit Sanderson, a quarterfinalist at the 2014 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional.  Michael Donadio also made his season debut, losing to Ted Berkowitz at No. 6 singles.

Union (0-4/0-3 LL), which last played on Oct. 4, has a month off before heading to Florida for its Spring Break trip.  The Dutchmen will face 25th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater on March 23 in Orlando.
