Women's Hockey Drops Season Series to Clarkson

SCHENECTADY, NY -  The Union College Dutchwomen dropped the season series to #10-Clarkson on Sataurday afternoon, losing the season finale by a score of 6-0.

The Golden Knights scored on their first shot attempt of the game as Cayley Mercer deposited a shot over Shenae Lundberg's shoulder to give CU a 1-0 lead just nine seconds into the contest. Later in the first, Lauren Lefler made it 2-0 as she beat Lundberg with a nice move in front.

In the second period, Olivia Howe redirected a shot from Renata Fast to give the visitors a 3-0 advtange with eight minutes remaining in the stanza.

Clarkson put the game away with three third period goals off the sticks of Mercer, Fast and Danielle Matteucci. Mercer scored her second of the game with a slap shot that went right over Lundberg's glove hand. Just over a minute later, Fast one timed a close range shot off the feed of Shannon MacAulay.

Matteucci provided the Golden Knights with the 6-0 final margin as she fired a shot from just under the blue line on goal. Lundberg made the save initially but the puck bounced up off her leg pad and into the goal.

Lundberg finished with 29 saves in the game. Alexx Ridding replaced her with 6:49 remaining in the contest. Ridding finished with six saves in her second game of her career.

Union won the faceoff battle for the second straight night, going 25-19 within the circle. Rebecca Babiak led the way with a 10-4 mark while Christine Valente was 8-5 for the Dutchwomen.

The Garnet and White will be back in action next weekend with the final road trip of the season as they travel to face Brown on Friday night followed by a matchup with Yale on Saturday.
