Union Falls to Colby and UPR Mayaguez

ORLANDO – The Union men's tennis team suffered back-to-back losses against stiff competition Wednesday in central Florida.

Union started the day with a 9-0 loss to 35th-ranked Colby, followed by a 6-3 setback to Puerto Rico Mayaguez, an NCAA Division II member.

The Dutchmen went with a younger lineup (consisting solely of freshmen and sophomores) against Colby. Three Union players made their collegiate debuts in the process – Alec Been at No. 4 singles, Sid Canchester at No. 5 singles and Adam Ashcroft at No. 6 singles. Canchester is a two-sport athlete at Union, having competed for the crew team.

The second match of the afternoon was highlighted by a pair of victories from T.J. Moor, who defeated Fabian Rodriguez 6-1, 3-6, (11-9) at No. 1 singles, then teamed with Brendan Conry Jr. to capture the No. 1 doubles flight with an 8-6 triumph over Rodgriguez and Carlos Bruno.

Union's No. 2 doubles duo of Grant Zaccareo and Spencer Fontein edged Alejandro Chardon and Kevin Ramos 8-5 in a pro set.

Union (0-7) concludes its spring trip tomorrow with a non-conference match against Hamline.
