SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union's men's tennis team opened its 2015-16 season with a 7-2 win over Bard in Liberty League action from the Union Outdoor Courts.
With T.J. Moor out of the lineup due to injury, Anthony Laurencio stepped into the No. 1 singles slot for the first time in his career and posted a three-set win over Ted Laport. Laurencio improved to 7-0 lifetime against Bard, teaming with Max McGeown for a victory at No. 2 doubles.
McGeown was one of two freshmen to break into the starting lineup, joining fellow rookie Zach Kaplan, who needed three sets to dispose of Keillor Mose in a hard-fought match.
Brendan Conry Jr. dropped just one game in posting a straight set win at No. 4 singles while Spencer Fontein lost only two games in a winning effort at No. 5 singles.
Next up for Union is a trip to the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional, where selected team members will start play on Sept. 25.Union 7, Bard 2Singles1.
