Women's Hockey Travels to Providence for Midweek Game

PROVIDENCE, RI - Union travels to Providence College on Tuesday (Oct. 18) at 7:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena in Providence, RI.

Last Time Out
The Union College women's hockey team fell at the hands of RIT 2-0 in Rochester, NY Saturday afternoon.

For much of the first period, both sides were just feeling each other out as Union registered seven shots while the Tigers had just four.
 
RIT turned up the pressure on Dutchwomen goalkeeper Kate Spooner. 14 shots found the frame for the Tigers including the opening goal scored by Kendall Cornine at the 10:23 mark of the second period. The goal was assisted by Caitlyn Wallace and Lindsay Stenason.

Nine into the third period, RIT would add to its lead as Jade Manacini converted on a powerplay opportunity at the assisted by Mallory Rushton and Tori Haywood. Mancini pushed the Tiger's advantage to 2-0.

Spooner made 25 saves in the losing effort for Union while the Dutchwomen were unable to convert on their four powerplay opportunities.

After winning by a score of 2-0 on Friday afternoon against RIT, the Dutchwomen were unable to find the back of the net. This is the first time this season that Union has been held off of the scoresheet.

Scouting the Friars
Providence has started the year 2-3 with a pair of shutout victories over RIT. Cassidy Carels leads the Friars in goals, assists and points (4G, 4A, 8P). The potent Providence offense has scored two or more goals in every game that it has played this season but, the defense has allowed three or more goals in three of its five games thus far.

Next Up
The Dutchwomen are off for the next 10 days before returning home as they open up ECAC play against Colgate (Oct. 28) at 3:00 p.m. and Cornell (Oct. 29) at 3:00 p.m. Union went 0-1-1 against the Big Red last year tying on the road 2-2 as Jessica Kaminsky and Kelli Mackey both found the twine. It fell 4-1 in Messa in the second matchup to Cornell. The Dutchwomen went 0-1-1 with Colgate in 2015-16 tying 2-2 on the road as Jacyn Reeves and Katelyn Tomaselli found the back of the net while losing the second matchup 1-0 at home on Jan. 30th.
