HAMILTON, N.Y.—The Union College men's hockey team came up a goal short in its regular season finale, falling 2-1 to Colgate, Saturday afternoon in Hamilton. The Dutchmen, who will be the ninth seed in the ECAC Hockey playoffs, go to 13-12-9 overall and 6-10-6 in ECAC Hockey, while the Raiders, who will be the 10 seed, move to 10-22-2 overall and 6-14-2 in league play.

Sebastian Vidmar potted his sixth career goal for Union. In goal,
Jake Kupsky made a 21 saves on 23 shots.

Tyson Spink and Jake Kulevich each tallied to lead Colgate. In goal, Charlie Finn made 33 saves on 34 shots.

The Raiders opened the scoring at 3:48 of the first when Tyson Spink tucked in Tylor Spink's backdoor pass for his 13th of the season.

Vidmar equalized for Union 3:02 later, putting home his own rebound after Finn stopped his initial wraparound attempt. The goal was Vidmar's first since since Jan. 16.

Colgate had a chance to regain its lead with a 2-on-1 rush early in the second, but Kupsky made two saves in quick succession to deny Mike Borkowski and keep the game level at 1-1.

Kulevich managed to put the Raiders back in front at with a power-play goal 16:28, beating Kupsky from the left faceoff circle with a wrist shot through traffic.

Finn turned away all 15 shots he faced in the middle frame to preserve his team's lead heading into the third.

Union held Colgate to just one shot in the final stanza. The Dutchmen had two power-play opportunities late in the game but the Raiders were effective on penalty kill, allowing just four shots to hold on for the 2-1 win.

The Dutchmen finished 0-for-4 on the power play, while Colgate was 1-for-5.

Union will travel to 16th-ranked Cornell for the first round of the ECAC Hockey playoffs for the second consecutive year. The best-of-three series begins Friday, March 4.
