Softball splits with win over Bates, loss to Chicago

CLERMONT, FL -- Molly O'Brien and Brianna Godlewski had two RBIs each to lead the Union College softball team to an 8-3 win over Bates College Sunday. The Dutchwomen bounced back for their first win of the young season after a loss to Chicago, 10-1.

Courtney Casey had two of Union's eight hits in the victory. Freshman Dana Dolinko earned her first career pitching victory. She gave up three earned runs and did not walk a batter in the complete game win. Union opened up a 1-1 game with four runs in the fifth inning and later added three in the seventh for insurance. Godlewski hit her first home run of the season for Union.

Karen Lockhart and Maddie Inlow had two hits each for the Bobcats (0-10). Kylie Martin gave up seven earned runs and four walks in the loss.

Earlier in the morning, Chicago scored twice in the first and six times in the second inning. The Maroons recorded 11 htis led by three by Devan Parkison. Kristin Lopez drove in four runs and Kathleen Kohm and Maggie O'Hara had two RBIs each. Jordyne Prussak gave up two hits and struck out three in four innings for the triumph. 

Dolinko, Kim Puzo and Joanna Chalifoux had a hit each for Union. 

The Dutchwomen, now 1-3 in the spring, plays Monday with games against Stevens at 9 a.m. and Fredonia at 11 a.m.
