CLERMONT, FL -- The Union College softball team lost to Stevens in a slugfest, 13-9, and Fredonia scored an unearned run in the bottom of the eight for a 7-6 win over the Dutchwomen Monday.
In the opener, Stevens had an 11-4 lead after three innings but the Dutchwomen put five runs on the board in the fourth. Gavriella Risman-Jones and Katherine Tirabassi had three htis each for the Ducks, while Tirabassi, Olivia Gemma and Farryl Groder drove in three runs each for the Ducks. Stevens recorded 16 hits on the day and Tirabassi hit a home run in the game.
Union was led at the plate by
Dani Hennel, who had three hits, and
Dana Dolinko added two hits.
Courtney Casey and
Kim Puzo each drove in two runs, and the Dutchwomen finished with 10 hits. Stevens had five errors in the contest, and improved to 5-0.
The game against Fredonia was a see-saw contest, with the lead changing five times. The Blue Devils won it on a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth. Aldyn Carlson got the win in relief, with 3 1/3 innings allowing three htis, one run and striking out two. Lindsey Forness had two RBIs and joined Alyssa Morgan with two hits each.Â
Casey led Union with three hits and scored three runs, and
Molly O'Brien had two RBIs.
Joanna Chalifoux and Puzo had two hits each, and Union outhit Fredonia, 12-10.
The Dutchwomen are idle Tuesday and return to action Wednesday for games against Allegheny (9 a.m.) and Oswego State (11 a.m.).
